Les Pieds de Margot
Les Pieds de Margot
Cali Kula is back to Deep House sounds, with a French connotation, on this new EP. After a first Deep House EP released in 2021 by Batavia Records, this second EP defends a form of groovy sensuality, an addictive bass, and the voices of Fatoo and Seriously Sam.
"Les pieds de Margot" is a poem signed by M.A.G. We don’t know a lot about him, except that he lived in the 19th century, did not publish anything during his lifetime, and was not known for his prose or poetry. It was in the mid- 1970s that his granddaughter, Madeleine, found his texts and poems in a box in the attic. Despite her persistence in getting her grandfather's writings published posthumously, no publishing house agreed to do so. For the title track, it is the first appearance of Fatoo, who lent her voice and wonderfully carried the poem.
"Queen G" is the third collaboration between Cali Kula and Seriously Sam, after the tracks "Modern Phenomenon" and "Be Your Woman," released in December 2022 by Wild Bohemia. "Queen G," or "Queen Glamour," revolves around a small phrase: "I will never leave your side, come on baby you can't hide."
"Story of Bilitis" refers to the film "Bilitis" by photographer and director David Hamilton, whose script is adapted from poems by Pierre Louÿs. The track is built around a monologue of the main character in the film.
"Marquis de Jazz" combines mystery and sensuality, inspired by "Justine" by the Marquis de Sade and the film adaptation of his novel by Jesus Franco. The track is a tribute to the erotic noir films of the 60s and 70s, with a touch of jazz that gives it its atmosphere.
